Like Alma, I laughed while reading your dad's canny advice. So simple. So right.

Your father's margin note is hilarious. It was my belly laugh of the day. And his other writer's suggestions--priceless. How lucky we are to have grown up in a world where human beings didn't yet have to deal with alien competitors. It was hard enough as it was.

I love the phrase, alien competitors. It feels as if we have created robots who will take over and replace us.

Eliz—doesn’t A.I. stand for Alien Invasion?

It definitely should!

Love your dad’s writing advice. A wise writer.

I get these same solicitations --- telling me I have written one of the most brilliant histories in years and offering to help me promote the books world-wide. Ah, but there is a price.......

Just yesterday, I got a message from Amity, who noted my "work in history and academic scholarship caught my attention," and offered to "exchange a few professional perspectives." (I, too, am a "literary institution," as you know.) I wonder why AI can't spell "Emily."

Another friend reminded me of Elmore Leonard‘s first piece of advice. Never open a book with weather.
